Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Significant concern' for the touring side as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the field during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson pulled up with his left leg after the final ball that he bowled at the MCG.

The touring camp stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time away from the action to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the series at the SCG begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has previously lost strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and another paceman with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, managing only three wickets.

He was dropped of the third Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

The county bowler performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, before adding 28 as a batsman among just a trio of England players to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he resumed on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, at the end of his spell, he bowled a slower ball to Travis Head and immediately felt at his leg.

The English bowler was brought back for the Melbourne match after being left out the Adelaide game.
