Iran Claims Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations across the region in response for a "massive" and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is not yet known and the United States has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
