Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
