New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Once more, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD released video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in March and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He signed with Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with New York in March.
