President Trump Calls Families of Injured National Guard Members to the White House

Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the White House.

He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Devastating Incident

Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.

White House Call

The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president informed the press. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”

Public Response

Attendees came together over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist law enforcement in the capital.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the media. “She was caring, caring and always ready to support those in need.”

Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Legal Steps and Policy Changes

Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The event prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and temporarily stop providing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of the Airman

The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed the program that she planned to meet with his relatives.

Memory of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” the governor told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
