The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
