Triple award winner Nikola Jokic sustains a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" knee injury when the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.
The star player was hurt late in the first half in an inadvertent coming together with team-mate Spencer Jones.
Jones came down on the footwear of the big man, and he immediately fell to the court clutching his leg.
The veteran player, who tops the league season in boards and assists, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to suffering the setback.
The player is scheduled for an scan on Tuesday to evaluate the extent of the problem.
"Immediately, he understood there was a problem," said Nuggets head coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever that gets hurt, that's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as important as Jokic. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"We will continue together. Of course, right now, I'm focused primarily about Jokic personally and the frustration of going through an event like that."
