Two Victims Named in the Ivy League School Attack as Law Enforcement Press On With Search for Killer.

Both young individuals who died in the recent violent attack on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant continued following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a service on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted condolences online, saying in part: “There are no words. Remembering her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine more persons were injured in the violent event in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a police operation at a lodging about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“There is a killer at large,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our city”.

The shooter discharged a weapon inside a classroom in the engineering building on Saturday afternoon, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm handgun, a police source told the media outlet.

Law enforcement that entered the inn recovered a pair of pistols and magazines when the person of interest was arrested, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Of the nine hurt, one pupil was allowed to go home, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Further Tributes

Tributes were paid to Cook at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only during her upbringing... but at Brown she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the group. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a message. “We extend our sincere condolences to the Umurzokov family, loved ones, and fellow students and mourn the loss of his bright future.”
