Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.
Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
With the first season of the acclaimed series wrapping up—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the writers' room recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.
About the Incredible Fan Response
Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.
“It feels like constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by online forums.”
“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.
The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan See the Ending of Pluribus?
Given that Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats.
“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to abandon a decent plan for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.
“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?
“I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.
